Question for fellow blogger types who've abandoned Blogger.

I'm thinking of moving the site away from Blogger before restarting because I hear that, even in cases where permission has been granted to host an MP3, they've removed them. Where should I look to move and/or what program can I use with my own domain/host that has similarly easy-to-navigate templates and less Big Brotherism?

you don't know me but i'm a musician and have been a fan of your blog for years. if you move to someplace like dreamhost that has the one-click wordpress install, that's very easy, robust and customizable, and i'd be happy to give you some pro bono help getting a killer layout put together.

Download/install WordPress to your host. In fact, you may want to check in your host account dashboard and see if there's an area called Fantastico. If there is, check to see if WordPress is already installed. If so, simply activate it and follow the instructions. You should be able to import all of your Blogger posts into WordPress. Since it's free/open source, you'll own your copy and it will reside on your server, so you'll have total control over what you post.

Thanks. Dreamhost is already my provider. I didn't realize they had a Wordpress widget. I'll likely look into that. Thanks again.

Oh, and yeah, help with layout would be cool! I'll be in touch.

If you have a domain+webhost of your own, I can recommend Wordpress, like Myrrh said. There's plugins available for that to feed it back to other places like Livejournal where I currently follow Copy, right? My own band's website (spawnkill.nl , sorry, we don't have any covers) pretty much runs on it.

I assume you already know all the words of caution about music file sharing , so I won't bother you with that, since I always enjoyed the blog greatly. Some of the things you have shared in the past are still in heavy rotation on my mp3-player and I have gotten to know a few bands through it I would otherwise never have discovered. Thanks!

Oh, yeah, WordPress is definitely the way to go. Especially if you're going to self-host. I run all my blogs that way.
There are about eleventy-billion free themes for WordPress, but watch out for the ones with sneaky, hidden, embeded links to icky things. Check out WordPress.org for "officially sanctioned" themes and you can hit for forums for help or to help find designery people. I'm not one, or I'd volunteer to help. If you're inclined that way at all, though, WordPress is pretty easy to modify.

Hope you'll bring your blog back. I always loved it, loved the tunes, and just checked in at random tonight and found this great news that you are returning. So sorry for the bad things in your life, but I hope you are finding some happiness now.

I popped back in here hoping there would be news like this. Glad to hear you're considering opening the blog again. Before you abandon Blogger, hopefully you'll post one last time here: directions to the new spot. :-)

Oh, and thanks for being the first ever to blog one of my tracks! Hard to believe it was three and a half years ago already...

Hi.

I was wondering how you got on in finding a new domain/hosting service to blog your mp3s?

I've had a look at WordPress but they don't seem to let you have Adsense on the Free account or the ability to custom your templates.

I've had a lot of success with wordpress. Couple of bucks will get you mp3 hosting for the year. Its not as flexible design wise, but its got everything else.

If you want to host it yourself dreahmost has been most excellent to me.

Do it all on your own domain and use WordPress to publish it. Works like a dream for Cover Freak.

Monogodo is spot on! And I agree

Yes, Wordpress lets you port all your old Blogger posts over very easily.
